How to use Litrewise
Search for your town or postcode, pick petrol or diesel, and see the cheapest stations nearby, with the time each price was last updated.
Which fuel is which?
- Petrol (E10) is standard unleaded petrol, with up to 10% ethanol. It is the normal petrol on UK forecourts and suits most petrol cars made since 2011.
- Super unleaded (E5) has up to 5% ethanol and is usually a higher octane. Some older and classic cars, and some motorcycles, need it. Check your handbook or the label inside the fuel flap.
- Diesel is standard diesel (B7, with up to 7% biodiesel).
- Premium diesel is sold by retailers as a higher grade of diesel. Check your handbook before paying extra for it.
Petrol and diesel are always shown first and equally. Super unleaded and premium diesel come next, smaller, unless you pick one of them.
Why might the price at the pump be different?
- Retailers can change a price at any time, and we update the data once or twice a day. Every price shows when the retailer last updated it.
- Some prices are old or contain mistakes. We mark a price out of date when it hasn't been updated for more than 30 days, and unusual when it looks like an entry error. Both stay in the lists exactly as published, and neither is used in the averages.
- Motorway and island stations often cost more.
- Opening hours are the usual hours the retailer supplies. Check before you travel, especially on bank holidays.
If a price is wrong, report it to Fuel Finder so the retailer can correct it.
How do I search?
- Type a town or postcode into the search box. Any village, suburb or postcode district works.
- Press Use my location to search from where you are. Your position stays in your browser and is never sent to us.
- Use Drop a pin on the map to search from any spot, such as a hotel or a house.
- Choose how far to look, from 3 to 25 miles. Distances are in a straight line, not by road.
What does the cheapest list show?
For each fuel, the cheapest stations within your distance that are open and have a recent, ordinary price. Stations that are closed, out of date or unusual are still listed in All stations, so nothing is hidden. We never rank or promote a retailer for payment.
What do the "Saves" figures mean?
They compare a station with the nearest one for a full tank, after an estimate of the cost of the extra drive. They use a typical car until you set your own tank size and fuel economy under the savings settings. They are estimates only.
Can I send a station to someone?
Yes. Use the send button next to a station, or the share button on the page, to copy a link. If you searched from a pin, the link includes it.
